Double-Bladed Sword (In-depth edition)
Okay, here's the deal. Someone already made a thread on this, but as you can see, I decided to make a more precise, in-depth thread so the OP doesn't get flamed as hard or people don't get confused.
The picture remains the same. You would have a wooden or metal shaft, connecting two slightly arcing blades. The way you would hold it would be your choice. It WOULD be double-handed, but there could be multiple ways to hold it. Here are the ways.
Assassin - It having Katana-like features, they should be able to use it. Now, they could hold it one of three ways.
1. Assassins hold a staff by taking their arm, and making it point out slightly, with their hand and wrist turned to their back, and then holding a staff that makes a X when crossed on top of their arm. They could hold it like this.
2. They could hold it with both hands on the shaft, and the blade pointing like this / But more slanted.
3. They could hold it with one hand, but you couldn't use an off-hand, since when they strike, they would use both hands to wield and use the blade.
Warriors - Them being to be able to wield virtually any weapons (A warrior bring a master of weapons), they should be able to use it also.
1. Hold it like a hammer, but be intensely lighter.
2. Hold it with one hand, but not being to use an off-hand, as stated with the Assassin.
Advantages - You would attack possibly 10% faster, or somewhere around there. Possibly 15% faster. You would take half damage from skills that induce damage when blocked. You would have a 20% chance to ignore their blocking, because with a double-bladed sword like this, you have two ends to strike with. If one of your blades are blocked, you retaliate quickly, thus, swinging the other end of the blade, and the opponent having a reduced time to react.
Disadvantages - You have a -10% chance to block when using this weapon. Since you have no shield, and it being a VERY skinny weapon, your ways of blocking is reduced. When blocked, you have a 5% chance to receive half the base damage of the max damage of this weapon, since it being a very skinny and fragile weapon, it has a small chance of it bouncing off of an object and injuring you. Also, when blocked, you have a 5-15% chance of not being able to attack for 3-7 seconds, because when blocked, if you were hitting too hard, and hit something else hard, your weapon would jar, along with yourself, temporarily paralyzing you from attacking. (This would not freeze you, you just couldn't attack).
Damage Range - 6-32.
Attack Speed - +10%
Special ability with it - Attacking faster and anti-melee hexes having a reduced effect on you. (Possibly 10% less damage)
The stuff with damage range, attack speed, and special ability will be argued and worked out about.
Skills associated with this weapon:
Double-Bladed Strike. 5e 4r
Melee Attack. You attempt an attack where, if it hits, you strike twice, each attack doing +3...7..8 damage.
Bladed Stance. 10e 20r
Stance. For 10 seconds, while attacking, you have a 5% chance to strike twice, and a 10% chance to induce Bleeding.
Blade of Penetration. 5e 9r
Melee Attack. If this attack hits, you inflict a Deep Wound and Bleeding for 7...17..23 seconds.
Thank you for reading.
Constructive criticism and please....
NO FLAMING!!

Does the fact you wrote don’t flame in bold and then underlined it make you exempt from negative comments?

I think that would be greatly overpowered. Take away the realistic feature from it. Make it able to hit twice, and reduce the damage to 10-20. It should attack about as fast as a scythe, not faster. And shouldn't have the ability to make hexes do less damage. With all that it would still be better than a sword or axe, just slower. For warriors only as well, since it's a sword.
Skill wise, I'd adjust your skills to be more like this.
Double-Bladed Strike (Swordsmanship) 8a 10r
Sword Attack. You attempt an attack where, if it hits, you strike twice, each attack doing +3...8...15 damage. (This attack at 16 swords would do about +60 damage, which would result in about 80-100 damage hits with up to 140-160 crits I'm guessing).
Bladed Stance. 10e 40r (strength)
Stance. For 3..10..16 seconds you do +1..3..5 damage and have a %5..15..25 chance to induce bleeding for 3..8..15 seconds.
Blade of Penetration (Elite) 8a 5r
Sword attack. If this attack hits, you inflict a Deep Wound and Bleeding for 7...17..23 seconds. If this attack is blocked, you receive Bleeding for 15..13..9 seconds. This skill has 10% armor penetration. (This would do Deep Wound on the first hit and Bleeding on the second hit)
(Insert name here)5e 25r
Stance. You must be wielding a Double Bladed Sword. For 3..6..12 seconds you attack 25% faster. Any critical hits while under this stance induce a random condition (Bleeding, Deep Wound, Weakness, Cripple). If you are blocked this stance ends and you receive Blind for 10..6..3 seconds.
(Insert name here) 5a 0r
Sword Attack. You strike target foe for +5..8..12 damage. If you are under a stance this attack cannot be blocked.
(Insert name here) 5e 12r
Sword Attack. You strike target foe for +3..5..7.. damage. Critical hits from this attack give you 15..45..75 health.
Something like that.

No, that's too bad. A katana is meant for FAST attacking, not slow and reduced damage. -.-

Any other way would make it way too powerful. It has to be slow because you cannot hit for 80+ damage in 1-2 seconds.

unfortunately GW doesn't have the kind of combat system to implement this weapon properly
if made realistic, it would be overpowered, due to the amount of skill needed to use properly being very hard to implement in the game
after all, swinging this thing like a maniac will just get you hurt, but if very good at it it can be very destructive
and yeah, i love these kind of weapons......dual ended scythe anyone? lol

And completely doesn't change the fact that weapons like that have no place in Guild Wars. At least GW 1.
Is it that hard why you can't have double-bladed swords or carry 2 axes, each in one hand? Really?

I've always passionately hated DnD's double-weapons. There's a reason there are none in reality: they don't work.
Double axes, double swords, double scythes and double hammers (can't find a pic of those monstrosities, but yes, there's double everything, including hammers, in DnD) are stupid, even more so than fantasy weapons in general, and I do NOT want them in Guild Wars.
/unsigned.
EDIT: Why stop at double? Why not triple or quadruple axes, swords and hammers? Four times the blades = four times as good, right?

Cool concept, but (please correct me if I'm wrong here) it sounds like the way it's wielded would require new animations. That would of course lead to clipping issues, and would have to be meticulously tested with all armor combos and be scaled down quite a bit to work.
I love the idea, but doubt we'll see it come to fruition in this game. I seems like a ton of work. Lots of "Concept" weapons were submitted to the design a weapon contest, but the chosen winners all conformed to the basic weapon classes already in existence for the purposes of keeping their introduction as smooth as possible. This would be a good candidate for GW2 suggestions however.

Maybe someone who understands how the game works, what balance is, and what is desired could remake this topic. Maybe then it would have some value. Currently, I read the first paragraph, learned it was an attempt to change the way game mechanics work, and realized it would never happen.

The only really working 'double' weapon is the Quartestaff.
Why? Because its the only one that won't almost always hurt the user.
The reat are waaay to slow if used properly in a way that prevents self-damage.

/signed. This entails a restructure of how the weapons are used in gw. A one handed weapon can always be wielded by two hands, as such it would do more damage, or it can be dual wielded. Of course, none of that DnD attack of opportunity and jump back 15 feet, rinse repeat idiocy that developed. The swing speed, the damage rate, and the critical rate would have to be reworked. This is a novel idea that would change the game and open up many opportunities. And with 'no flaming' in bold, and that insidiously cute avatar pic, how can you ever get flamed? =]

The mechanics are wayyyy too complex. Stick to hammer if you want 2H.

a 2H weapon that you can 1H wield? Sounds a lot like a Dia II barbarian me thinks.
